The suspect who was carrying an orange umbrella is 5 feet 6 inches tall. The suspect who was wearing brown shoes was carrying an orange umbrella. The suspect who was wearing brown shoes was wearing a purple shirt. Therefore, one suspect was carrying an orange umbrella, is 5 feet 6 inches tall, was wearing brown shoes, and was wearing a purple shirt. But Jack Smith was carrying a purple umbrella, David Brown was wearing a blue shirt, Bill Martin was wearing tan shoes, and Tom Davis is 5 feet tall. Therefore, the only suspect who could be this suspect is John Stevenson. Since this suspect, John Stevenson, is 5 feet 6 inches tall and the murderer is 5 feet 6 inches tall, he is the murderer.
